      ☄ 2019 ☄

Gig for Gav - Vicar St, Dublin - 1st April 2019

A truly magnificent and very special show in Vicar St for Gavin Ralston which was organised by his brother Aongus.

The band played a powerhouse set and were joined by Gavin and Sharon Shannon for 'Medicine Bow', 'Be my Enemy' and 'Fisherman's Blues'.

For then for the encore of 'Come Together' we also had the addition of Picturehouse, Mundy and Binzer on the second drum kit.

This was a killer show that will live long in the memory and will be talked about for many years by all who attended!

    9. oslo_2018.jpg

    10. The Playhouse, Edinburgh, Scotland - 29 June 2018

A very powerful show in the Playhouse. Although they played the same set as the London Palladium gig in April, this show had even more feeling as Mike was clearly delighted to be back in Scotland.

    11. playhouse_2018.jpg

    12. The Barrowland Ballroom, Glasgow, Scotland - 30 June 2018

A truly magnificent and very special show in the Barras. One of the greatest shows this web author has witnessed in fact.

The connection (or communion), the love even, between the band and the audience in the Barrowland Ballroom was palpable.

Earthpower, ancient magic and elemental energy in abundance!

And we were treated to a special song 'Glasgow Has Been Good To Me' over the P.A. as the band made their grand entrance on stage.

    18. Open House Festival, Bangor, Northern Ireland - 03 August 2018

Mike sang 'I Remember The 80's' before 'A Girl Called Johnny' and also treated us to a wonderful outing of 'The Pan Within'.

New song (?)'Where The Action is' was not played and the show ended with an extended version of 'How Long Will I Love You' with some great vocals from Brother Paul.

A central solo by Brother Paul instead of Mike on 'Long Strange Golden Road' and the show finished with an extended heartfelt outing of 'How Long Will I Love You' which Mike dedicated to Aretha Franklin (who sadly left us that day) and again with a great vocal from Brother Paul.

    24. Irish Christmas Tour 2018

Listed below are all of the set lists from the Irish Tour which was an absolute triumph!

Drogheda, County Louth Ireland - 30 November 2018

Set list from The Crescent Concert Hall Drogheda. A Club type show in a small venue. Only 300 standing on the floor with seating for another 300 at sides and rear.

We got extended workouts of many songs with 'Morning Came Too Soon' dropped from first set. Instead we heard a spellbinding extended outing of 'Man What A Woman' with a fine solo by Mike to close the first set.

Most of the acoustic songs due to be played in second set were changed so the second set ran like this: 'Connemara Fox', 'When Ye Go Away' + 'Dunfords Fancy', 'Santa Fe', 'Fisherman's Blues' and 'The Whole Of the Moon'. The encore was 'How Long Will I Love You'. A fantastic warm-up show that left us all baying for more!

    25. drogheda_set.jpg

    26. Leisureland, Salthill, Galway - 01 December 2018

Set list from The Leisureland, Galway. (Report pending) Thank you Sally Greenberg.

    27. sally_galway_set.jpg

    28. Vicar St #1 Dublin - 03 December 2018

Set list from the first show in Vicar St. A powerhouse performance through and through and a fantastic atmosphere made this an unforgettable evening. We also got I remember the 80's and a humorous take of Come Together with a crowd singalong. The rendition of Too Close To Heaven was profoundly beautiful. A special mention to Zeenie and Jess who really gave their all, in these two shows with soaring vocals while radiating pure joy throughout. And then for the encore we were treated to a guest appearance by the fabulous Camille O'Sullivan who duetted on How Long Will I Love You to close out an incredible show.

    29. vicar_st_1_set.jpg

    30. Vicar St #2 Dublin - 04 December 2018

Set list from the second show in Vicar St. If anyone thought that the show on the previous night could not be equalled, they were very wrong! Tonight's show was radically different from night #1 not just with a varied set but with many of the songs played much differently than usual. From the opener 'Rosalind' with Steve playing some mean rhythm guitar, we knew something very special was afoot. All The Things She Gave Me in it's 'new' form was second out of the traps. Of special mention here is the quite remarkable version of We Will Not Be Lovers played in a totally unique way with no shared vocal by Steve on the 'Like dogs for a share' verse.

In amongst these new versions we got a wonderful story during the Nearest Thing To Hip that had the band and crowd guffawing with laughter. Again we also heard I remember the 80's and another funny take of Come Together with a short crowd singalong. Mike also led the crowd in a 'Stevo' chant which only subsided when Steve ventured centre stage, removed his hat and took a bow. The second set closed with a blistering take of Long Strange Golden Road.

And then Mike announced a special guest for the encores, none other than Gavin 'Fingers' Ralston (Brother of Aongus). Gavin played in the Mike Scott Band on the 'Still Burning' tour in the late 90's. We knew we were in for a Rock n Roll assault! First up we got a blistering extended Medicine Bow including a smoking guitar duel between Gavin and Mike and then with Steve wading into the breach too. The show closed with a raucous Fisherman's Blues with Gavin on guitar. The band really had a fun time on stage over these two nights. We left the venue in a state of rapturous delirium. Two triumphant and truly magnificent shows that will live long in the memories of all who were present.

    31. vicar_st_2_set.jpg

    32. The Opera House, Wexford - 05 December 2018

Set list from the Opera House in Wexford town. A full-on blistering performance this evening that more or less stuck to the script and without much chatter or stories from Mike. Although not listed for the encore we got another earth-shattering outing of Long Strange Golden Road that sent the crowd home in a state of ecstasy.

During the final bows Ralph came forward and presented his drumsticks to young Gabriel Nugent who was sitting in the front row with his Dad Philip. Gabriel also received Mike's guitar plectrum and set list so quite an unforgettable occasion for the young man.

Thank you Gabriel and Philip Nugent.

    33. wex_gabriel_philip_set.jpg

    38. Cork Opera House, Cork - 10 December 2018

Set list from the Opera house in Cork. According to the testimonies of Isabelle and Michael the Cork show was an absolutely cracking show and a fitting end to the tour. The highlight being a particularly tender Too Close To Heaven. The sole encore was Fisherman's Blues.

Thank you Isabelle MSW Martin and Michael Macken.

    39. isabelle_michael_cork_set.jpg

Wrightetgaarden, Langesund, Norway - 14 July

A great looking set in Langesund with the addition of some new songs. And although not listed, the show finished with Roll Over Beethoven.

Thank you Ann Kristin K Tharaldsen and Dag Reinert Johansen!

    41. ann_set.jpg

    42. Carrick On Shannon, County Leitrim 16 July

A really wonderful show in Carrick. The new five piece with Aonghus Ralston on Bass, have a real edgy sound. It was a gig filled with hightlights throughout. The guitar driven 'How Long Will I Love You' really shone in this new arrangement, and 'Fisherman's Blues' with it's punchy bass line and beat, is a song reborn! New song Connemara Fox is in a nutshell superb!

Although 'Celebrate' (a cover of Anderson Paak) was listed it was not played. But Mike did treat us to a burst of 'Hang On Sloopy' before a raucous and blazing LSGR closed what was an outstanding show.

And quite a gig it was, with a set filled with many unreleased (as then) songs, some rare songs and some other songs that have yet to be released.

An incredible show in an incredible venue.
